Ever since getting a bad grease burn in a samosa frying incident I have been pretty scared of deep frying. But lately I have been attempting to conquer my fears. And overcoming fear so you can enjoy deep fried apple pies might just be one of the noblest pursuits there is. OK, maybe that’s a slight overstatement. But, my friends, these things are really good. I’m afraid that from now on pies that haven’t been deep fried will seem lacking.
I modeled them after the classic McDonald’s recipe. Because those things were seriously good. And so are these. The crust is substantial enough for a hand pie, but it’s also light, buttery, and flaky. The filling is classic, and while the apples are pre-cooked, they still have fantastic apple-y texture.
I highly recommend that you give them a shot.
absolutely ridiculous! are you kidding me? these look so good!
I made these they were FANTASTIC
Can not wait to try this it look awesome and thank you for sharing
Can SOMEONE PLEASE SEND/LEAVE ME THE LINK TO THESE APPLE PIES?

HUGS ,
Anita aka Anita3kids
Thanks Kate! That’s kind of how I feel about them too.
Before seeing this I had envisioned an entire pie being dunked in a huge vat of hot oil. The thought was a tad intimidating. But this, this seems perfectly reasonable, and totally delicious. I used to love McDonald’s apple pies as a kid.
Kimberley-Ha! I cannot imagine deep frying a whole pie, but I’m on such a kick right now I may have to try it.
how do i get recipe for deep fried apple pie
Hi Jan, There’s a link at the end of the post (it’s blue).
My mom made these from scratch, untill all four of us left home for school s and she used all kinds of fruit. She made fresh peach,Blackberry, strawberry, and even mincemint. She fried them in lard and placed them on brown paper bags to drain. YUM!!!!!!!!!!
She also used fresh sour cherry, banana, macintosh apples, and even mincemint for Thanksgiving. I’m sure I’ve left out some fillings.
Thank you, my mother would have been proud to share her recipe. We lived in Harlan Co. all our life , in a town called Cumerland. It was in a coal mining town that was a Tri-cities, Cumberland, Benham, and Lynch (UMW of A}
Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see the recipe for fried applys by
McDonalds
Did you ever figure out the link?
The giant text that says, “get the recipe…” is the link.
the link is broken. I keep getting an error message. Could somebody send it or tell me where it is?
thanks!
Hi Dee, It’s working for me, but just in case, our recipe is on Babble.com’s Family Kitchen here: http://blogs.babble.com/family-kitchen/2011/02/24/mcdonalds-copycat-recipe-fried-apple-pies/
Just go to Just A Pinch and you can find fried pies and lots of great recipes. I use comstock pie filling and prepared pie crust. Belive it or not the best thing to fry these in is lard and drain them on brown papper bags. You only have to deep fry these til they are golden since the pie filling is already cooked and if you bake them, brush with egg whites and add sugar. these are just as good and so easy. Enjoy!!!!!!!
Let me know if you like my easy version.

I have been making these fried pies for ever and I never get tired of them…My three son’s were raised on them. It seemed they knew when Mom was making them because they would come flying in the door after school…
I’m 67 yrs old and when I was a child my great-grandmother made homemade fried peach and apple pies. Best I ever put in my mouth!
I am anxious to try these apple pies, similar
To the ones McDONALD’S makes.

Hi Geneva, There’s a link at the end of the post.

Hi Sandy, Thanks for checking out the post. The part that says “Get our recipe over on Babble.com’s Family Kitchen” is the link. It’s red, as my link colors change occasionally.
Thank You ….got it from the reply to Joy…did not see it in red either Thanks again for posting it !
Hi Joy, It’s working for me, but try this: http://blogs.babble.com/family-kitchen/2011/02/24/mcdonalds-copycat-recipe-fried-apple-pies/
I have been making my own easy version for 25 years. I use prepared pie filling and roll it up in eggroll wrappers. While still hot, roll in cinnamon sugar.
Mom made the best homemade fried pies. She used fruits that was available through out the year.
This is great too. 🙂
I don’t see the recipe either
click on red print Babble.com families kitchen under statement “I highly recommend that you give these a shot”
Can these pies be baked in the oven instead of frying?
Trying to avoid fried foods.
Hi Linda, I think they could be, though the frying is what gives this dough the flakiness. For flaky dough, you could sub in an apple filling for these baked hand pies: http://brooklynsupper.com/2012/04/strawberry-basil-hand-pies-the-first-blogstar-sunday-supper/#.UyMu6FFdWYk Hope that helps!
Just made them tonight… absolutely delicious!! For some reason I couldn’t find apple cider, so I used sparkling apple cider. And instead of sprinkling with confectioner’s sugar at the end, I copycat’ed (is that a word?) McDonald’s and rubbed them with cinnamon/sugar after deep frying them. I will be making these several times over! Thanks so much.
I can not get the website to come up either I have tried several times. HELP PLEASE

Hi Jazzy, Thanks for checking –– the link is now working just fine.
My Southern mother made these my whole life, and they are the best pies you will ever taste. She also made peach ones with dried fruit she boiled down – my dad’s favorite. Many memories from these pies.
I sure would like a copy of the MCdonalds fried apple pies.THANK YOU.
I plan to make these but I am going to use my air fryer. Save a few calories but still have the treat. Thanks so much for the receipe.
I can’t get the link either… Google.. Mcd’s frued apple pie recipe and it comes up… personally I’d use canned apple gilling.. I like the gooey filling as opposed to making the apples yourself… but easy!! Puffed pastry.. apple filling .. seal n fry !!!
