We’ve had a few cool, rainy summers with temperatures barely topping 90 degrees, but my phone predicts we’re in for a solid week of 90 plus. And while I’m OK with a little summer swelter, leafy greens and a host of cool weather loving vegetables are not. We’ve been slowly harvesting our garden greens and lettuces, but this weekend, I’ll need to pull them all in because they’re going to bolt any second.  [Read more…]

spring produce guide: what to eat right now (end of may) // brooklyn supperOn Wednesdays, we head out to Bellair Farm for our CSA pickup. The girls and I head south on a winding two lane road with sweeping views of the verdant rolling terrain right along the Southwest Mountains (which are technically a mountain range, even if the range is mostly comprised of very large hills). By the time we turn off the main road the radio has started to fade out. We switch it off, roll down the windows, and search for wildlife as we wind our way out to the farm; spotted this week: a giant wild turkey. [Read more…]
